Understanding Classification Documents
The classification documents available on this website need some explanation due to the allowable classifications available under the EN standards.
EN1366-1 This test standard covers both ventilation and kitchen extract ducts. The classification documents available via download on this website cover BW11 uninsulated ducts up to 60 minutes integrity (E60). This is the highest classification available under BS EN13501-3 and is therefore the highest that can be issued on a classification document. It should be noted that BW11 has been tested successfully in all variations (horizontal/vertical/fire inside/fire outside) for 120minutes. The BSEN13501-3 standard also permits the classification of insulated ducts so there is also a BW18 classification document available for download. The standard recognises longer periods of resistance for ducts with insulation rating and in the case of BW18 ducts this is up to 2 hours. (EI120) The ‘S’ suffix in the classification string indicates a leakage rate of not more than 10 m³/(h.m²).
EN1366-8 This test standard covers multi compartment smoke extract ducts. The classification document available via download on this website covers BW18 insulated ducts only for up to 120 minutes integrity and insulation (EI120). Under the smoke duct classification standard BS EN13501-4 only insulated ducts are recognised. It should be noted that BW11 has been tested successfully in all variations(horizontal/vertical/fire inside/fire outside) for 120 minutes integrity only. All ducts maintain the required 90% free area and the ‘S’ suffix in the classification string indicates a leakage rate of not more than 5 m³/(h.m²).
EN1366-9 This test standard covers single compartment smoke extract ducts. The classification document available via download on this website covers unsprayed ducts only for up to 120 minutes integrity at 600°C (E600120).There is no insulation option for these ducts under BS EN13501-4. All ducts maintain the required 90% free area and the ‘S’ suffix in the classification string indicates a leakage rate of not more than 5 m³/(h.m²).
