Project description

Part of the East London Line extension, Shoreditch High Street was one of the four new stations constructed between 2008 and 2009. The station officially opened to the public on 27th April 2010.

Scope

The project consisted of two runs of 2m wide smoke extract ductwork, running over the tracks along the full length of both of the main platforms. Plant rooms were located at high level above and at the end of each of these platforms.

Project highlights

The main challenge was the fixing of the supports. Cast-in fixing points were located at each of the cross beams and no other fixings were permitted. FPL ensured that the load capacity of these was not exceeded in fire condition, and designed a galvanised channel sub-rail system, fixed to the beams, from which the system was supported. These rails can be seen in the images below.
